The Avianovations Hepard is a being designed as vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) low-maintenance, and low-cost urban multicopter transport using hydrogen fuel cells to charge batteries.

The Hepard has a total of 22 electric motors and vertical propellers set two complex arrays on either side of the cockpit. Up to 5 consecutive failures allow the aircraft to continue the flight. These arrays can fold upward allowing the vehicle to fit into an average garage or for towing. It uses hydrogen fuel cells to produce power for the motor batteries. On batteries alone the Hepard’s range is 75 km with 30 minutes flight time but employing the fuel cells would increase this range to 400 km. The vehicle weighs 510 kg and can carry a two passenger payload of 240 kg. Cruising speed is 150 km/h with a ceiling of 1,000 m. It will fly autonomously or with “pointing directions” and a sports version will have a co-pilot manual mode.

The vehicle will be marketed with “urban” and “sports” models and offer 1 or 2 seat configurations. Flight scheduling will be done via a mobile application and will offer different levels of service from fast to offering an entertainment flight.

Avianovation’s first test flights are aimed for Dubai, Singapore or Sydney in 2018.

The business model uses the Blockchain consortium is the first crypto-currency platform for mass urban aviation, whose task is to automate the charging, maintenance and parking of flying cars. Blockchain.aero says it “is a blockchain for mass urban aviation market and a platform to tokenize aerial vehicles and infrastructure. We are a decentralized business consortium that aims to deploy urban community-driven aviation systems for passengers and city managers in 2020.”

“Hepard” is Azerbaijani for “cheetah.”
