VIMANA Global is working on vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) Autonomous Aerial Vehicle (AAV) designs with fore and aft tilting wings, each with four electric propellers powered by electric or hybrid-electric motors. The AAVs are intended to address traffic congestion in urban areas by using airspace to move cargo throughout a city, transport commuters, and allow first responders a way to get to a location quickly. They will feature automatic compensation for adverse weather, coordinated flight paths with other AAVs, and the ability to detect objects. The design will use modular construction so that the parts can be shipped to dense urban areas and assembled on the spot where the AAVs are intended to be used.

The company stated in Jan. 2018 that “Redwood City-based VIMANA Global Inc. develops VIMANA Universe solutions, where VIMANA Network is a flagship product consisting of blockchain nodes, VIMANA AAVs, and VIMANA protocols enabling the network and connecting it to blockchain. VIMANA Network is accessible to partners and third parties admitted to VIMANA Ecosystem via open APIs. The first application of VIMANA Network is with Urban Air Mobility markets. A team of aerospace engineers led by Evgeni Borisov is currently developing a one- and four-seater AAVs, which will be used for transporting passengers.”

The project aims for compliance with the goals laid out in the Uber ‘Elevate’ whitepaper, but the company plans to compete with its own blockchain-powered network.

A team of aerospace engineers led by CEO Evgeni Borisov is currently developing one- and four-seater AAVs for transporting passengers. VIMANA is headquartered in Redwood City, California, and has offices in the United Arab Emirates, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Russia. The VIMANA management team includes leading members of the aeronautical and blockchain communities.

VIMANA displayed a full-scale mock-up of their four-seat AAV at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 23-26, 2018.
