Airbus, Audi and Italdesign brought a quarter-scale radio-control model of the multi-modal Pop. Up Next mobility system to the Amsterdam Drone Week conference in late November. The Pop.Up Next system uses an unmanned VTOL flight module to transport a passenger-carrying pod by air; the pod can also be transported by ground in an autonomous four-wheeled electric-powered chassis.

With the Pop.Up next, Audi, Italdesign, and Airbus have combined a self-driving car and a passenger drone. The Pop.Up Next system is comprised of an air capsule, a cabin, and a ground module. An electric car drivetrain with the mobility of a drone, the passenger cabin is transported on land by an Audi chassis, and allows air travel via an Airbus...
Airbus XO, the company’s innovation group, revealed a concept for “seamless, multi-modal, fully electric urban mobility.” The modular Pop.Up concept features a capsule that connects to either a ground or air module. Airbus envisions the system relying on an artificial intelligence system where the “passengers plan their journey and book their trip via an easy-to-use app. The system automatically suggests the best transport solution … joining either the air or ground module or other...
