In the spring of 2019, Aerodyne Group announced they have entered into the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) passenger aircraft design and manufacturing business for advanced air mobility (AAM). Aerodyne Group is a DT3 (Drone Tech, Data Tech, and Digital Transformation) drone-based company providing the use of artificial intelligence for large-scale data operations, analytics and process optimization. (While Aerodyne Group's website might work in Malaysia and other parts of the world, according to our online experience, the website is not working in the USA.)
According to the company's LinkedIn account as of January 2023, Aerodyne Group employs over 800 drone professionals operating in the unmanned aerial system (UAS) services sector, has managed more than 560,000 infrastructure assets, has made 458,058 flight operations and surveyed over 380,000 km (236,121 miles) of power infrastructure across 35 countries.
The Vector eVTOL two passenger concept design miniature model aircraft, based on drone technology, has eight protected propellers, eight electric motors and is powered by lithium-ion batteries. The aircraft's maximum payload is 200 kg (441 lb) and its maximum takeoff weight is 600 kg (1,323 lb). The aircraft has a cruise speed of approximately 60 km/h (37 mph), has an altitude of 50 meters (164 feet) and has an estimated flying time between 30 to 90 minutes. The flying time depends upon the payload weight, wind conditions, the type of maneuvers taking place and how fast the aircraft is flying.
The scale model of the Vector eVTOL concept design aircraft was shown at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition in Malaysia in March 2019. The company has has not confirmed the number of passengers the vehicle will hold on future production models.
The aircraft is foreseen being used for cargo delivery, emergency response and for advanced air mobility. According to company officials, there is a team of eight aerospace and mechanical engineers are working on the prototype. Aerodyne Groups' goal is to have a flying prototype by June 2019.
Specifications:
- Aircraft type: Concept design eVTOL passenger multicopter miniature model aircraft
- Piloting: 1 pilot
- Capacity: 1 passenger
- Cruise speed: 60 km/h (37 mph)
- Flight time: 30-90 minutes
- Cruise altitude: 50 m (164 ft)
- Maximum payload: 200 kg (441 lb)
- Maximum take off weight: 600 kg (1,323 lb)
- Propellers: 8 propellers
- Electric motors: 8 electric motors
- Power source: Batteries
- Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
- Cockpit: Open cockpit
- Landing gear: Quadricycle fixed landing legs
- Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP), provides safety through redundancy for its passengers and/or cargo. DEP means having multiple propellers (or ducted fans) and motors on the aircraft so if one or more propellers (ducted fans) or motors fail, the other working propellers (or ducted fans) and motors can safely land the aircraft. There are also redundancies in the sub-systems of the aircraft. The propellers are housed in duct work with top and bottom propeller guards.
