Archer Aviation made the first flight of its Maker eVTOL demonstrator right on schedule.
The eMagic One, a new electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) proof-of-concept demonstrator, made its public debut at the EUROPEAN ROTORS exhibition in Cologne, Germany, on Nov. 8–10. Developed by eMagic Aircraft, the eMagic One is the product of company founders Michael Kügelgen and Thomas Senkel, who sought to maximize the endurance and range of eVTOL aircraft without compromising on safety.
Amid a maturing market for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, aerospace industry professionals and regulators have increasingly turned their attention to considering the types of infrastructure required to support these operations.
This series addresses the uses of terminology that drift toward becoming routine expressions or idioms — or already are — but are misleading or erroneous. This installment proposes a more rigorous approach to the terms for rotary-wing propulsors on vertical lift aircraft.
The number of electric VTOL designs in China is growing rapidly with significant funding.
The Vertical Flight Society (VFS), the world’s leading non-profit organization working to advance vertical flight, reports today that it has continued to experience record growth, propelled largely by the continued expansion of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) / advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft developments around the world.
As we journey through the second year of precautionary measures related to COVID-19, the Vertical Flight Society continues to provide webinars on relevant vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and electric VTOL (eVTOL) developments to keep members learning and actively engaged.
While it may not have been readily apparent to some, there was in fact a strong presence from the vertical flight and electric aviation community at this year’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, organized by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) on July 26–Aug. 1.
Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technology has only become a reality in the past decade, but one battery-powered electric helicopter briefly made it off the ground more than 35 years ago.
Whether it’s a short jaunt or a longer journey, one eVTOL start-up is taking the road less traveled to make vertical flight more accessible to the common man.
