Will hydrogen eventually supplant traditional sources of aviation fuels? One company thinks so.
The Vertical Flight Society today announces that the request for proposal (RFP) for its 39th Annual Student Design Competition (SDC) has been published. The 2021-2022 competition challenges students to design an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that accommodates passengers with a broad spectrum of mobility difficulties or other disabilities for urban air mobility (UAM) missions.
The Vertical Flight Society (VFS), the world’s leading non-profit organization working to advance vertical flight, announces today that the development of all-electric and hybrid-electric-powered vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft has continued to gain momentum.
Nearly 60 of the world’s leading electric aircraft developers and technology experts will be speaking at the CAFE Foundation’s 15th Annual Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS), held online next week on July 20-22, 2021. Registration information and details are available at www.vtol.org/eas.
Much has been said and debated about diversity, particularly in the US over the past year. While this is often wrapped up in discussions of discrimination and social justice — very important issues for society to tackle — this commentary is not about that.
On May 5, VFS-member NEXA Capital Partners, LLC, announced the formation and funding of a collaborative consortium of US companies and organizations to develop and launch an integrated supply chain solution for the emerging advanced air mobility (AAM) industry, which is projected to be multi-trillion-dollar aerospace sector.
The Vertical Flight Society today announces the winners of its inaugural Design-Build-Vertical Flight (DBVF) Student Competition. The University of Michigan took first place with a prize of $2,000. The team from the University of Maryland took second place and the Ohio State University took third place; the teams will be awarded cash prizes of $1,000 and $500, respectively.
VFS conducted a workforce study early last year (www.vtol.org/workforce) identifying some of the major challenges for the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) industry and addressed key points in our commentary, “Looking Back: A Perspective on the Future Vertical Workforce,” Vertiflite, July/Aug 2020.
Much has been written about the plans and development progress for Ingenuity; see "Red Planet Rotorcraft," Vertiflite, July/August 2018 and "NASA Mars Helicopter Team Striving for a 'Kitty Hawk' Moment," Vertiflite, May/June 2020.
