SkyDrive Appoints Kishi as CTO

In a press release dated April 4, Tokyo-based SkyDrive announced that it had hired Nobuo Kishi as its chief technology officer (CTO). Kishi — standing on the right in the photo, with company president Tomohiro Fukuzawa — previously held top positions at Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, and will lead the development and certification efforts to bring the SkyDrive eVTOL aircraft to market in 2023.

Kishi joined Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 1982, and transferred to Mitsubishi Aircraft in 2010. He became chief engineer of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), the first domestic jet-engine passenger aircraft, in 2012; three years later he was appointed MRJ executive vice president to lead its development.

“Throughout my career spanning four decades,” Kishi said, “I have gained considerable experience and knowledge in type certification, safety verification, project management, and system integration. I will help SkyDrive develop the flying car and bring it to the market. Together we will revolutionize the concept of air transport — benefiting both businesses and the lives of consumers. I would like to help take the industry forward by introducing a lean development process, while ensuring the same degree of safety as conventional aircraft, implementing advanced components, and employing innovative mass production processes learned from various industrial sectors.”

The press release stated, “World-leading flying car developer, SkyDrive, has entered the final stages of testing its demonstration vehicle after it completed the first-ever manned test flights in Japan” (see “Electric VTOL News, online or on page 62).
