Mad Bat passenger eVTOL scalable concept design aircraft
The Mad Bat is a one passenger eVTOL concept design aircraft made specifically for advanced air mobility (AAM). The aircraft holds one person and has a canopy over the cockpit for excellent views for the pilot. The inventor calls the Mad Bat a multipurpose tilt biplane VTOL aircraft. The aircraft is also scalable to larger sizes holding four to five passengers. For air cargo service, the aircraft is scalable to become a heavy-lift air cargo aircraft.
The aircraft has one enclosed box wing that tilts for VTOL and forward flight. When in VTOL flight, the box wing is in the vertical position and when the aircraft is in forward flight, the box wing is in the normal horizontal position. The approximate maximum payload weight of the one passenger aircraft is 113 kg (250 lb). The aircraft's propulsion uses four ducted propellers, four electric motors and is powered by battery packs. The entire aircraft is made from carbon fiber composite providing a high-strength and low weight ratio. The aircraft lands on a fixed tricycle wheeled landing gear arrangement. However, the aircraft also has fixed quadricycle wheeled landing gear on the rear of the closed box wing, possibly used for maintenance and storage purposes.
The inventor foresees his aircraft to be used for multiple uses such as surveillance, mapping, air cargo delivery, personal transportation, air taxi service and military service.
Specifications:
- Aircraft type: Passenger eVTOL scalable concept design aircraft
- Piloting: 1 pilot
- Cruise speed: Unknown
- Maximum payload weight: ~113 kg (250 lb)
- Propellers: 4 ducted propellers
- Electric motors: 4 electric motors
- Power source: Battery packs
- Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
- Window: Canopy over cockpit
- Wings: 1 box wing
- Landing gear: Fix wheeled landing gear (has both fixed tricycle and fixed quadricycle wheeled landing gear)
- Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP), provides safety through redundancy for its passengers and/or cargo. DEP means having multiple propellers (or ducted fans) and motors on the aircraft so if one or more propellers (ducted fans) or motors fail, the other working propellers (or ducted fans) and motors can safely land the aircraft. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft. The aircraft has a whole aircraft ballistic emergency parachute.
