Founded by Alexey Popov in 2021, Sirius Aviation AG is headquartered in Baar, Zug, Switzerland. Popov is the CEO of Sirius Aviation. The company is in the business of making clean, safe, economic, quiet, long-range and fast hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) passenger jets for advanced air mobility (AAM), capable of both city-wide and regional travel. The company is developing state of the art hydrogen-powered hybrid-electric VTOL jets in collaboration with BMW Designworks and the Sauber Group. (Image credit: Sirius Aircraft)

Sirius Millennium Jet hybrid-electric VTOL passenger concept design aircraft
The Sirius Millennium Jet is a long-range hybrid-electric passenger VTOL concept design business jet revealed to the public in December 2023. The aircraft holds one pilot and five passengers. If the aircraft is outfitted for air cargo service, the capacity of the jet is 1,100 liters, 5.1 M3 or CA.39FT3. The aircraft is powered by liquid hydrogen, high-temperature fuel cells and batteries. The jet is quieter than a helicopter and is a zero-emission aircraft. The company has revealed their jet will be 95% quieter than a helicopter.

The estimated cruise speed of the aircraft is 600 km/h (323 mph) and the expected range is range is 1,050 km (650 m). The aircraft has a front canard wing, one high main wing in the rear of the aircraft and has a V tail. The canard and main wing both have winglets. Each canard wing has four electric ducted fans (EDFs) and are tilt-wings. The rear high main wing has 10 electric ducted fans on each wing and the ducted fans rotate rearwards for VTOL flight. The high main wing is a fixed-wing and does not tilt.

The predicted noise of the jet is less than 60 dB at a 100 meters (328 feet) distance. The cabin is made from carbon fiber composite for a high strength and low weight ratio. The Sirius Millennium Jet and the Sirius Business Jet have the same fuselage dimensions. There is one triangular passenger window on each side of the jet. The jet has retractable tricycle wheeled landing gear. There is a whole aircraft emergency ballistic parachute in case of an inflight emergency.

The total cost for a full fuel tank refill is predicted to be $500.00 USD as of December 2023. The jet can take off and land in any open space big enough for the jet or it can take off and land conventionally. The company projects their jets to consume approximately 15 liters (3.96 gal.) of hydrogen per hour making it more environmentally friendly than traditional business jets. The company's target market is the business jet consumer. In December 2023, the company stated the first flight of the full-scale Sirius Business Jet demonstrator is planned for 2025. The estimated price of each jet has not yet been announced.

Specifications:

  • Aircraft type: Hybrid-electric VTOL regional concept design aircraft
  • Piloting: 1 pilot
  • Capacity: 5 passengers
  • Cargo only: 1,100 liters (5.1 M3 or CA.39FT3)
  • Cruise speed: 600 km/h (323 mph)
  • Range: 1,050 km (650 m)
  • Propellers: 28 electric ducted fans (EDFs)
  • Electric motors: 28 electric motors
  • Power source: Hybrid-electric (using liquid-hydrogen fuel, high temperature fuel cells and batteries)
  • Noise: <60 dB at a 100 meters distance
  • Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
  • Windows: There is one triangular passenger window on each side of the jet.
  • Wings: 1 canard with winglets and 1 main high wing with winglets
  • Tail: 1 V tail
  • Landing gear: Retractable tricycle wheeled landing gear
  • Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP), provides safety through redundancy for its passengers and/or cargo. DEP means having multiple propellers (or ducted fans) and motors on the aircraft so if one or more propellers (ducted fans) or motors fail, the other working propellers (or ducted fans) and motors can safely land the aircraft. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft. There is a whole aircraft emergency ballistic parachute.
