Founded in 2023, by Jeff Williams and Galen Geigley in Hastings, Michigan, USA, Velo X Aerospace is based in Hasting, Michigan, USA. The company is in the business of designing and building light passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for advanced air mobility (AAM). The founders have another company they started in 2005 called Soaring Concepts Aerospace www.soaringconceptsaerospace.com and backs Velo X Aerospace. Soaring Concepts Aerospace is a light sport aircraft company that already manufacturers and certifies light sport aircraft. The company has successfully secured their first round of funding. If you’re an investor, stay in contact with the company for future opportunities to get involved.

Velocitor X-1 passenger eVTOL multicopter (prototype)
The Velocitor X-1 is a one passenger eVTOL light multicopter aircraft prototype. Most of the company's videos show the aircraft being remotely piloted and tethered. It is unsure if the prototype was flown by a pilot. The company has stated that a lot of flight data has been collected by the prototype flight tests.

The multicopter prototype has eight propellers, eight electric motors and is powered by battery packs. The fuselage is made from carbon fiber composite to give the aircraft a high strength to low weight ratio. The aircraft has fixed skid landing gear. An aviation-grade aluminum alloy could also be used for part of the fuselage and landing gear. The prototype has aluminum plates in the rear of the fixed skid landing gear. The landing gear can be outfitted with clip-on wheels to make it easier to move the prototype on the ground.

Aircraft use
The company foresees that customers will use the aircraft for daily commuting to work, for traveling to go shopping, to go to the doctor appointments, to travel to the gym, for the joy of flying and for vacationing.

Specifications:

  • Aircraft type: Passenger eVTOL multicopter aircraft (prototype)
  • Piloting: Remotely controlled
  • Cruise speed: Unknown
  • Propellers: 8 propellers
  • Electric motors: 8 electric motors
  • Power source: Battery packs
  • Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
  • Windows: Open cockpit
  • Landing gear: Fixed skid landing gear
  • Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) uses multiple propellers or electric ducted fans, each powered by electric motors, to increase safety through redundancy. If one or more components fail, the remaining ones can still ensure a safe landing. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft providing safety through redundancy. Having multiple redundant systems on any aircraft decreases having any single point of failure. The aircraft has no moving surfaces or tilting parts when transitioning from vertical to forward flight and the reverse which increases safety by reducing complexity.
