Founded in 2023, by Jeff Williams and Galen Geigley in Hastings, Michigan, USA, Velo X Aerospace is based in Hasting, Michigan, USA. The company is in the business of designing and building light passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for advanced air mobility (AAM). The founders have another company they started in 2005 called Soaring Concepts Aerospace www.soaringconceptsaerospace.com and backs Velo X Aerospace. Soaring Concepts Aerospace is a light sport aircraft company that already manufacturers and certifies light sport aircraft. The company has successfully secured their first round of funding. If you’re an investor, stay in contact with the company for future opportunities to get involved.

Velocitor X-C air cargo eVTOL multicopter (concept design)
The Velocitor X-C is an uncrewed air cargo eVTOL multicopter aircraft concept design. The multicopter has full autonomous piloting and has a LiDAR obstacle warning and avoidance system (LOWAS).

The multicopter has one front wind screen with open sides. The estimated cruise speed of the multicopter is 70 mph (113 km/h) and has an expected flight time of 45 minutes. The multicopter has eight propellers, eight electric motors and is powered by battery packs. The calculated maximum payload weight of the aircraft is 280 lb (127 kg). The fuselage is made from carbon fiber composite to give the aircraft a high strength to low weight ratio. The aircraft has fixed skid landing gear.

Aircraft use
The company foresees their air cargo multicopter aircraft to be used for industrial air cargo transportation, commercial air cargo service, emergency medical supplies air transportation, battlefield resupply, special operations resupply and security air patrol. The aircraft can be outfitted with multiple cameras or sensors for security patrols and for other uses.

Specifications:

  • Aircraft type: Air cargo eVTOL multicopter (concept design)
  • Piloting: Autonomous piloting and has LOWAS (LiDAR obstacle warning and avoidance system)
  • Capacity: Air cargo, cameras and other sensors or technologies (such as long-line air cargo) per customer requirements
  • Cruise speed: 70 mph (113 km/h)
  • Flight time: 45 minutes
  • Maximum payload weight: 280 lb (127 kg)
  • Propellers: 8 propellers
  • Electric motors: 8 electric motors
  • Power source: Battery packs with a charge time of 6 hours
  • Fuselage: Carbon fiber composite
  • Dimensions: 91 w X 100 l (inches), 2.31 w X 2.54 l (meters)
  • Landing gear: Fixed skid landing gear
  • Safety features: Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) uses multiple propellers or electric ducted fans, each powered by electric motors, to increase safety through redundancy. If one or more components fail, the remaining ones can still ensure a safe landing. There are also redundancies of critical components in the sub-systems of the aircraft providing safety through redundancy. Having multiple redundant systems on any aircraft decreases having any single point of failure. The aircraft has no moving surfaces or tilting parts when transitioning from vertical to forward flight and the reverse which increases safety by reducing complexity.
