AFWERX Controls Heaviside

In an event in California between Dec. 13–17, a member of the US Air Force Reserve remotely piloted Palo Alto, California-based Kitty Hawk’s Heaviside eVTOL aircraft, marking the first such flight of its kind by a government entity. In a Jan. 21 press release, AFWERX, the Air Force’s technology accelerator, said that Capt. Terence McKenna participated in the demonstration as the remote pilot during tests at Kitty Hawk’s test site in the hills outside Hollister, California. McKenna serves as the test and experimentation lead for Agility Prime, the AFWERX advanced air mobility (AAM) initiative. Kitty Hawk, an eVTOL developer, is working with Agility Prime to evaluate a training syllabus for uncrewed eVTOL aircraft.
