Ampaire Acquires Talyn Air

Ampaire announced on July 20 that it had acquired all of the assets of eVTOL developer Talyn Air. The acquisition will allow Ampaire, a Los Angeles-based company that has, to date, specialized in fixed-wing “hybrid-electric” aircraft (with one piston engine and one electric motor), to expand into the VTOL domain and defense sectors. Founded in 2019, the Los Angeles-based Talyn was developing what it called the world’s first multistage eVTOL aircraft and had received funding from the US Air Force’s AFWERX Agility Prime program (see “eVTOL Aircraft at the 10-Year Mark,” Vertiflite, March/April 2023). “Through this expanded portfolio of technology and programs, we will be well-positioned to offer customers the most experienced hybrid-electric propulsion capabilities in the industry across drones, fixed wing, and eVTOL,” said Ampaire CEO Kevin Noertker in a statement.
