Aska Makes 350 Tether Tests of Roadable eVTOL
Aska, on Aug. 15, disclosed its ongoing tethered uncrewed flight tests with its full-scale A5 “roadable hybrid-electric VTOL” prototype (N901NF) at “a private airfield located in California.” The company, based in Mountain View, California, received its initial FAA special airworthiness certification in July 2023. During tests of the four-seater A5, Aska engineers verified thrust, flight control, electric and thermal system performance, including vibration and temperature parameters. To date, the company has made more than 350 tethered flights.
The ASKA A5 prototype has also driven more than 500 miles (805 km) in road testing, with the A5 the size of an SUV while in “Drive Mode.” The A5 has also completed “Drive to Flight” transition testing while on the ground, Aska stated. In July, Aska expanded the company’s Defense Strategy Advisory Board by appointing retired US Air Force (USAF) lieutenant generals Marc Sasseville and Shaun Morris to support Aska’s defense marketing.
