ASR Acquires Pioneer Aerospace
Aviation Safety Resources (ASR), the Kentucky-based manufacturer of aircraft emergency parachute recovery systems (AEPRS), announced on April 3 that it has acquired Pioneer Aerospace Corporation, a leading US manufacturer of parachutes and parafoils. ASR, which specializes in recovery systems for the aviation and advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft, acquired Pioneer from Safran Electronics and Defense. By capitalizing on Pioneer’s existing manufacturing facilities, the acquisition will allow the renamed ASR-Pioneer to scale its production capacity. “Our business plan called for adding over 80,000 square-feet [7,400 m²] of manufacturing capability,” Larry Williams, President and CEO of ASR, said in a statement. “[T]he Pioneer acquisition allows us to assign the needed production to Pioneer’s established facilities in Mississippi.”
The news marks the latest development in the continued expansion of ASR. It comes one year after the company acquired Strong Enterprises, a Florida-based manufacturer of parachute systems. The company said that it has also been working with Autoflug in Germany as a strategic partner: “Our vision is that we can combine our AEPRS technology with their seat, to provide a superior package for VTOL and other airborne applications.”
