Aurora Flies Hydrogen UAS for Seven Hours

Aurora Flight Sciences, a Boeing Company, announced on Aug. 27 the completion of a seven-hour flight test of its SKIRON-XLE small uncrewed aircraft system (sUAS) powered by hydrogen fuel cells and an auxiliary lithium polymer battery. The sUAS, designed for long range reconnaissance, features three mounting locations on its nose, belly and its under-belly for payloads including cameras. The fixed-wing design with vertical takeoff capability has a range of up to 8 miles (12.9 km). Following the test flight, Aurora senior director of products Jason Grzywna states “we look forward to delivering this game-changing product to customers in early 2025.”
