CAAC Awards Special Permit to XPeng

In a social media post on Jan. 29, XPeng AeroHT (formerly known as HT Aero and Heitech) announced that the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has awarded it a special flight permit for its X2 eVTOL aircraft. The permit will allow AeroHT, the eVTOL division of the Chinese automaker XPeng, to fly the X2 with a pilot under certain licensed conditions; data from it will be used to inform future research and development efforts. In a statement, XPeng AeroHT said that the X2 is the first crewed eVTOL to receive a conditional permit of this kind in China. According to the VFS World eVTOL Aircraft Directory, the X2 is the company’s fifth-generation multirotor aircraft and has a two-person capacity. It was first unveiled in Shanghai, China, in July 2021, and conducted a flight demonstration in Dubai in October 2022.
