EHang Gains China’s First Commercial Certificate

On March 30, Guangzhou-based EHang announced the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) had granted two air operator certificates (AOC) for its civil passenger-carrying autonomous aerial vehicles (AAV), clearing the way for EHang to begin revenue-generating passenger flights with its EH216-S. The certificates went to its wholly owned subsidiary, Guangdong EHang General Aviation Co., Ltd., and its joint venture company, Hefei HeYi Aviation Co., Ltd. The operators aim to begin selling tickets for “low-altitude tourism [and] urban sightseeing” flights and plans to eventually expand into urban commuting.

Also in March, EHang marked a total of 19 countries where the pilotless aircraft has flown following its first flight in Mexico, which it called a step toward future AAM operations in that region.
