Electra Acquires Airflow

Electra.aero and Airflow.aero, two leading manufacturers of hybrid eSTOL aircraft, have joined forces. At the UP.Summit in Arkansas on June 8 (see “eVTOL Leaders Continue Apace,” Vertiflite, July/August 2022), Falls Church, Virginia-based Electra revealed that it had acquired California-based Airflow. The transaction, the value of which has not been disclosed, was concluded on June 2, and will see Electra consolidate Airflow’s team, letters of intent and partnerships into its operations. Last fall, Airflow, which was founded in 2019 by former members of the Airbus Vahana team, announced partnerships with Plug Power, Honeywell and Pipistrel on various aspects of aircraft development (see “Electric CTOL/STOL News, Vertiflite, Jan/Feb 2022). NASA, meanwhile, announced on June 3 that Electra will be participating its AAM National Campaign. With this acquisition, Electra’s conditional order book for eSTOL aircraft has more than doubled, rising from 300 units in February to 800 units today.
