Electra Secures USAF Award

Electra announced on March 10 that the US Air Force has awarded it a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contract for work on advanced flight control systems for Electra’s eSTOL aircraft. The STTR Phase II contract, which is shared with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will help the company develop the precision control systems needed to enable aircraft landings in spaces smaller than a soccer field. The Virginia-based eSTOL developer intends to demonstrate the flight control system on a full-scale hybrid eSTOL demonstrator later this year. The STTR follows another contract awarded to the company by the Air Force on Feb. 8 to accelerate flight testing of Electra’s aircraft (see “Electra.aero Adds Funding, Partners,” Vertiflite, March/April 2022).
