First Flight of the Aerofugia AE200

Aerofugia has begun flight testing an uncrewed demonstrator for its five-seat AE200 eVTOL. According to eFlight Journal, the uncrewed AE200 X01 made its maiden flight on Jan. 17, some weeks after Aerofugia completed the final assembly of the aircraft and received permission from China’s aviation authorities. The prototype features eight electric propellers, four of which tilt for forward flight while the others are in a fixed position. The Chengdu-based Aerofugia is a subsidiary of Geely Group, the car manufacturer that owns multiple Western car brands, including Volvo and Lotus; the company includes the assets of former US-based Terrafugia, which it acquired in 2017 (see “China’s Rising eVTOL Industry,” Vertiflite, Nov/Dec 2021).
