Germany Funds Hydrogen Aircraft
Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) will support a project to develop hydrogen-electric aircraft, Deutsche Aircraft announced in an April 4 press release. Known as 328H2-FC, the project is led by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) together with Deutsche Aircraft, H2FLY and Diehl Aviation, and with support from six other partners. The BMKW funding will support the conversion of a Dornier 328 aircraft to a hydrogen-electric propulsion system. The project is the first to develop a fuel cell system with a power output of 1.5 MW, according to Deustche Aircraft. A demonstrator is expected to fly in 2025.
