GoFly Extends Competition

GoFly announced in early September that it is extending the deadline for its competition for a personal VTOL until September 2023. Launched in 2017, the competition is offering a grand prize of $1M for the team that can build a “safe, quiet, ultra-compact, near-VTOL personal flying device capable of flying 20 miles” with a single person. According to GoFly, multiple teams are progressing towards this goal. Twenty-one teams competed in a fly-off in February 2020 (see “GoFly Inspires Innovation,” Vertiflite, May/June 2020). The competition is sponsored by Boeing and supported by the Vertical Flight Society and 27 other organizations.
