Lift Off for ZEVA Zero
ZEVA Aero, an eVTOL developer based in Tacoma, Washington, announced on Jan. 13 that it has completed the maiden untethered test flight of the full-scale ZEVA Zero. The Zero, which was uncrewed at the time, completed four flights totaling more than four minutes. The flights occurred in Pierce County, Washington, on Jan. 9, and demonstrated the aircraft’s ability to lift off, hover and land. The ZEVA Zero features a compact airframe with a circular wing — originally designed for the GoFly Prize competition (see “GoFly Teams Prepare to Fly Again,” Vertiflite, Nov/Dec 2020) that resembles a flying saucer. According to the VFS World eVTOL Aircraft Directory, the Zero has eight electric motors powered by batteries. Eventually, the company intends to market the Zero to the public for an estimated price of $250,000 each.
