Regent Advances Seaglider Development
On Jan. 13, Regent, a developer of electric seagliders located in Boston, announced a collaboration with Moore Brothers Co. on the development of its electric seagliders. The Rhode Island-based Moore Brothers will provide composite manufacturing for the Regent demonstrator seaglider. Regent is aiming to test a technology demonstrator in the “months ahead,” with commercial service entry planned for 2025. The all-electric, 12-passenger Regent seaglider is designed to carry cargo up to 180 miles (290 km) and at speeds up to 180 mph (290 km/h).
Meanwhile, on Feb. 4, Regent announced that it has raised $18M in funding from Thiel Capital, JAM Fund and Mesa Air Group, among others. Mesa Air Group also intends to purchase 200 Regent seagliders. The news follows an announcement in December that Southern Airways Express plans to acquire 20 Regent electric seagliders (see “Southern Airways Adds Electric Seagliders,” Vertiflite, Jan/Feb 2022).
