SkyFly Selects Norco

Skyfly Technologies announced on Dec. 15 that it has selected UK-based Norco Composites to build and manufacture the fuselage, wings and composite components of its Axe eVTOL aircraft. Skyfly, which is based in London and was founded in 2019, expects its first aircraft to be complete by June. The two-passenger Axe eVTOL is anticipated to weigh just 485 lb (220 kg), which Skyfly is aiming to achieve using lightweight composite structures. “The Skyfly Axe EVTOL fuselage main shell is built in one piece using resin infusion, which provides low void content lightweight mouldings at low cost,” said Skyfly CTO William Brooks in a statement.

On Feb. 1, Skyfly announced that Edwin Brenninkmeyer has joined the company as a strategic investor. Brenninkmeyer, the founder and CEO of the UK-based firm Oriens Aviation, invested an unspecified amount in the Skyfly. In a statement, Brenninkmeyer said he was attracted to the simplicity of Skyfly’s design and operational concept, which he thinks will appeal to private pilots.
