SkyFly Starts Piloted Wing-Borne Axe Test Flights

On March 7, UK-based SkyFly Technologies announced the first wing-borne test flights with its Axe “Vertically Capable Aircraft” (VCA). Each flight lasted up to 17 minutes in duration with heights of up to 2,500 ft (760 m). The Axe is capable of both vertical flight and conventional takeoffs on a runway. On April 1, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) authorized SkyFly to begin airborne transition tests between hovering and forward flight. The startup, founded in 2019, completed a previous testing phase with its Axe SN001 aircraft, which involved tuning the handling of the two-seat aircraft during low-speed flights and hover tests (see “Electric VTOL News,” Vertiflite, Jan/Feb 2025).
