United Backs Eve
United Airlines said on Sept. 8 that it will invest $15M in Eve Air Mobility, the Embraer-backed eVTOL developer. The agreement includes a conditional purchase of 200 of the four-passenger Eve aircraft, as well as an option for an additional 200. The first aircraft could be delivered in 2026. “Today, United is making history again, by becoming the first major airline to publicly invest in two eVTOL companies,” said Michael Leskinen, President of United Airlines Ventures, the company’s sustainability and innovation unit, in a statement. In August, United placed a $10M pre-payment delivery with Archer Aviation on 100 eVTOL aircraft, for which it made a conditional agreement in February 2021. To date, Eve has yet to provide an update on when it intends to fly a large-scale demonstrator or prototype.
