Universal Hydrogen Secures Order
Connect Airlines, a start-up regional US airline, has placed an order with Universal Hydrogen for the conversion of 75 ATR 72-600 Regional Aircraft to hydrogen powertrains. The announcement, which was made on June 9 at the UP.Summit in Arkansas, follows a letter of intent signed by the two companies in 2021 and also includes the purchase rights for an additional 25 conversions. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2025.
Connect Airlines, a division of the Massachusetts-based charter firm Waltzing Matilda Aviation, plans to launch scheduled flights between points in the US Midwest, US Northeast and Canada, once it receives the necessary regulatory approvals. “With this technology and its economics, we easily anticipate our appetite growing to over 800 airplanes in this class to support the growth of our route network across North America,” John Thomas, CEO of Connect Airlines, said in a statement.
