VoloCity Rolls Out and Plans for Paris

Volocopter GmbH held a roll-out ceremony of its first VoloCity production aircraft on Sept. 30 at its Bruchsal, Germany, facility. The ceremony was held with officials from France who announced that a UAM flight test area will be established at Pontoise Aerodrome, 22 miles (35 km) northwest of the center of Paris. The city plans to test air taxis by Volocopter and other potential vendors in a realistic urban environment in June 2021, likely in conjunction with the Paris Air Show at nearby Le Bourget Airport. The company noted that “the prospect of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games provides an exceptional opportunity to involve an entire industry and to make Paris Region a leader in the global market of Urban Air Mobility.” Volocopter also began accepting reservations for its first VoloCity flights, selling 1,000 reservations for 15-minute flights for €300 ($350) within four weeks. The company also published a study with ADAC Luftrettung on using air taxis for rescue services and announced partnerships with Japan Airlines and Lufthansa Industry Solutions.
