Hoversurf at Dubai Airshow 2019
The Vertical Flight Society's Vertiflite contributor Ian Frain attended the Dubai Airshow 2019, held Nov. 17-21 at the Dubai South Event and Exhibition Center, Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
One highlight was the Dubai Police hoverbike. Built by California-based Hoversurf, this ultralight eVTOL is a monocoque frame created using a myriad of carbon fiber technology fiber. The airframe is constructed by a single element, which gives the structure a strong stiffness while having weight reduction. The Dubai Police plan is to field these hoverbikes fully in service by 2020. As of last year, there were two police officers started training to fly this eVTOL platform. The Dubai police force is also embracing small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) platforms for surveillance and support with the likes of quadcopters.
Photos by Ian Frain were posted on the eVTOL Facebook page.
