At the Future of Transportation conference in Cologne, Germany, on a panel chaired by VFS Executive Director Mike Hirschberg, Bell’s director of Innovation, Scott Drennan, announced a newly formed collaboration with Safran on the development of innovative hybrid-electric power system solutions to support Bell’s eVTOL Air Taxi concept.

The new aircraft utilizes dedicated propulsion systems for both cruising and vertical lift and embraces an aircraft family approach of eVTOL able to carry from two to six passengers.

Abe Karem, Karem Aircraft’s Founder, is a pioneer in VTOL technology, with decades of experience designing flying concepts including the Predator drone and A160 Hummingbird. Uber and U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Army Research Lab (RDECOM ARL), announced on May 8 a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) establishing an ongoing plan to partner around developing and testing the vehicles used in Uber’s proposed urban aviation rideshare network.

As part of its second annual Elevate Summit, Uber announced that it has entered a partnership with E-One Moli Energy (Moli). Uber Elevate’s battery team intends to purchase battery cells from Moli, which will be used in future propulsion battery pack prototypes for eVTOL developed by Uber’s vehicle partners.
